Long before today’s rotations of trainees arrived with rolling luggage and tight timelines, Brunswick was a working port town shaped by shipbuilders, shrimpers, railroad lines, and marsh tides. The surrounding Golden Isles - including St. Simon’s Island and Jekyll Island - have long balanced duty and leisure, industry and escape. Coastal Georgia has always moved in cycles: people arrive, contribute, and move on. The rhythm isn’t new - only the uniforms change.

Today, thousands come here each year for federal training at the nation’s largest law enforcement training campus, located right here in Brunswick. Students fly in from every corner of the country. They rotate through demanding programs. They live on base, study hard, train harder - and for a short window of time, this coastal town becomes their temporary home.

The Brunswick Brief exists for that window.

This project was built to bridge two worlds: the campus and the community. It’s a practical field guide for students, instructors, and staff navigating life on rotation - and a platform for local businesses who want to serve them well.

This is not a tourist guide. It’s local knowledge.

I’ve lived here for more than two decades. As a commercial photographer, I’ve worked alongside hundreds of business owners across Brunswick and the islands. I’ve watched the steady rotation of trainees, instructors, and staff move through this town year after year. I’ve seen what works, what’s missing, and where connection could be stronger.

The Brunswick Brief is my effort to close that gap - to create a credible, useful hub where incoming trainees can quickly orient themselves, where businesses can understand the needs of the federal training community, and where both sides benefit from clarity.

Welcome to Brunswick!

Train hard. Explore wisely. And when you’re off duty, let the coast do what it’s always done - steady you before you move on.
